When you want to change something in your life, things can seem insurmountable. Whether it’s to lose a few extra pounds or change your career, whether it’s starting your own business or cleaning up your apartment, I’m sure there’s a change, no matter how small. But, still difficult. A multitude of researches confirm that gratitude is a good thing for you. It helps to reduce anxiety and depression, helps you be more positive, strengthens your relationships with others and encourages compassion. It has also been proven to increase the feeling of happiness. Some people are naturally more grateful than others, which mean they show their gratitude more easily than others. However, you can practice developing an attitude of gratitude regardless of your level of natural gratitude. Gratitude is one of the easiest things to do that requires the least amount of effort and makes the biggest change in your life.

 

 

To acquire gratitude, try to avoid approaching others as if you deserve something

This does not mean that you deserve nothing and that you must agree to be treated inappropriately or disrespectfully. It only means that you should try to approach things without having the impression of having the right to obtain a certain result or a certain profit. Accumulate all the little joyous things that happen during the day. They add to each other. You could keep a journal and write there regularly. For example, if the traffic was not bad or if you had a good breakfast, if one of your friends told you something hilarious if you went out in the park to walk your dog and play with it, try to remember these little things. You will probably realize that you have more gratitude than you have ever imagined.

We’re not paying attention these blessings anymore by taking them for granted and complaining about all kinds of things. I do it myself, all the time. But when I catch myself doing that, I also remember to be grateful. Is your job boring? You need to be grateful that you have a job at all, a roof over your head, food in your belly every day. You might be grateful if you have friends or someone who shares your everyday life with you. You are alive and it is such an amazing gift. Always remember that.

You may be grateful for your health if you have it. Or if you do not have perfect health, but you have two legs to walk then you can be grateful for that as well. If you do not have legs, maybe you have eyes to enjoy the view of a sunset. And if you do not have eyes, maybe you can listen to music, and so on. When times are tough, you might not see it all. But know that if you seek, you will always find something to feel gratitude.

A thank you, even a little word, can make someone else feel appreciated. By sharing your gratitude with others, you will also come to remember what makes you grateful. Absorb the good things. It is not enough to notice the good things when they happen. Take the time to think about it and let these experiences penetrate your memory. Tell yourself: this is a wonderful time and I want to remember the gratitude I feel for having experienced it, it can help you store those memories for the more difficult times.

Determine your main values

Your core values determine what you think about yourself, your life, and the world around you. These beliefs guide your decisions. They may be spiritual or not, but they must be fundamental elements that dictate the way you look at your life. For example, one of your values can be your commitment to excellence or commitment to your family. I do not have health insurance, so I am very keen on staying healthy. That’s why I did some research and found that the leading causes of death are several. Some factors are out of your control (like your age, your family history, and your gender). But other factors can be under your control and these factors are not really a surprise – you already know that you should not smoke, drink too much, or eat unhealthy food. It is interesting, however, to see that all major diseases are caused by the same causes: smoking, eating unhealthy food, sleeping less, alcohol and stress. I will list below the best habits you can adopt in order to have a healthier life and the bad habits you need to quit for you to achieve this goal.

Reduce negative self-talk

Have you ever felt that you are influenced by a small inner voice? The one that every time you want to take a step forward or want to take action says: “Attention! You risk failing “or” it’s too difficult, it’s not for you! “. This voice makes you uncomfortable and lets you believe that you are unable to do this or that? It is not easy to coexist with this unhealthy voice, this inner speech that only brings you discouragement and weakness. Fortunately, there are tools and techniques that can help you transform this destructive voice into a much more encouraging, sympathetic and benevolent speech.  One day, I was asked this question “Would you talk to someone you like the way you talk to yourself?” And that’s when I realized that there were two types of inner speeches that are negative. The first is a speech of regret. It translates as follows: I should have done one thing instead of another; I should have explained this differently. And then, there is the second negative speech, which comes before the action and before starting what we want to do, which puts us in doubt, stress and set us up for failure.
